BALLOON MAGIC

We've begun to look closely at solids, liquids and gases.  We've learnt that everything is made up of tiny little lumps called MOLECULES.  During the next 5 weeks we will be experimenting with ways to upset these little lumps and change SOLIDS to LIQUIDS, LIQUIDS to GAS and vice versa.

Our first experiment was quite exciting; we inflated up a balloon using vinegar and baking soda.  The baking soda reacted with the vinegar, releasing carbon dioxide into the balloon.
HERE WE ARE.

Exciting Sentences - Interesting Adjectives, Adverbs and Connectives

In writing, we've been learning to make our sentences really exciting for the reader.

The kids in room ten had to change short simple sentences into amazingly descriptive and exciting sentences.

Here's what we started with:

Maui sat fishing.  The sun sped across the sky.

And here's a few examples of our exciting sentences.

Sadly, Magical Maui sat fishing, meanwhile the lavery sun raced across the clear sky.  By Thomas D

Powerful angry Maui impatiently sat fishing.  The flaming, boiling, hot sun quickly raced across the clear, blue sky.  By Emma

Maui angrily sat fishing, with his angry brothers, Maui did not have a lot of fish.  He looked up at the clear, blue sky.  He saw the fiery sun quickly race across.  By Luke

Buddy Conferencing with Room 22

A huge part of writing is EDITINGEditing for punctuation, editing for spelling, editing for grammar...editing, editing, editing (says the teacher)...and it is a hard one to master.

So we called in some EXPERTS.  Our buddy class from Room 22 came to give us a helping hand to edit our Maui and the Sun stories we have written.  Thanks so much Room 22.
